Point/Counterpoint: Hanson vs. Jonas Brothers 12

The Georgetown Independent, Georgetown University, Washington, DC

38 minutes ago by Meredith Ponder

I know it is probably sacrilegious for me to make this argument, as I feel like I'm betraying my generation, but the Jonas Brothers kick more ass than Hanson, hands down. From "MMMBop" to girly haircuts to having to create their own record label to get airtime, Hanson is clearly the lamer of the two boy bands.

Origins of African-American Culture Becoming Overlooked, Misunderstood 6

The Hilltop, Howard University, Washington, DC

9 hours ago by

Hundreds of years ago, when our African ancestors were brought from their native land to America, they brought with them certain customs, ideals and beliefs that soon became the African-American way of life.

Dance, religion, food and music are among the richest sources of African-American culture and sadly, they have become so mainstream that people no longer identify them with the struggles of slavery and the adaptation to a new way of life.

In a Man-Made World: There are condoms all over the campus 3

And just what does AU offer to help keep students safe and confident? I do believe, for one, that there is a self-defense class. And there's the faded hotline numbers posted in the bathroom stalls: rape hotline, abuse hotline, counseling. And there are free condoms.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and Democrats in general have blamed the housing, banking and insurance crises on President Bush. The root of these crises, however, started more than 90 years ago with the progressive movement, then-President Woodrow Wilson and other Democrats.

Walking around the campus made me feel powerful. I openly defied the laws that restricted me to the white stripes of crosswalks and crossed where I pleased. The slim, curvy roads on the campus kept most drivers from speeding, forcing them to pay attention to the bold pedestrians who could pop out at any minute, from any corner.

If you've been to the Goucher campus for any length of time, you've probably heard of it already: Humans vs. Zombies. A week ago, The Diamondback rightly gave a page-one banner headline to a story that was more important than the Terps' big victory over Clemson. The headline was "Police log two weekend crimes." The first of these crimes caught my attention. A female student was sexually assaulted sometime betweenand 2 a.

If you haven't been watching the news, listening to the radio, or reading a newspaper lately, you may not have heard; apparently, the United States economy just jumped off a cliff.

Suddenly, all those banks, private investment firms and large mortgage companies stopped making boatloads of money and found out all that the money they were making wasn't really there.
